The title evokes that it is a sin against the cosmos to end civilization, as spectators we would think that this issue would be better approached and explored by giving a social but more religious message about respect for life and that in some way justifies the actions of its protagonist, to finally take advantage of all his resource and none of that happens, it is very frustrating that being a good idea none of this is fulfilled and we realize how misleading its trailer is. Drake’s direction is equally egregious: he has no idea how to stage even the simplest elements of the film, be it a shooting, a dramatic moment, or an emotional scene. For one thing, the script is all over the place, with the basic setup seemingly changing from scene to scene and. ![]() It is clear to us that the script advocates that none of these characters is prepared for the fact that aliens are capable of effectively taking human bodies by inhabiting the corpses of their victims, it makes no sense to explain this fact: cosmic sin is a cosmic disaster. Ellora’s forest to detonate it and root out these creatures before they can come to Earth and kill all of humanity which may be a grossly misguided message about genocide, but since the script itself sucks we can’t know for sure because everything is half. If we see this work in the context that nothing here is serious and that the absurdity it can be in direct homage to a B-movie, its pace is slow, its narrative is full of incomprehensible technical dialogues between the military and doctors, Misplaced sexist jokes that more than make us laugh to break the tension a bit are extremely uncomfortable because, to begin with, they have no reason to be and much less add something to the plot.Īs if that were not enough, the characters determine that they must eliminate the aliens with a highly advanced sound device called the Q-bomb, which for some unknown reason presents an old-fashioned red digital screen, Ford and his team take a quantum leap to the planet. ![]() ![]() The protagonist of this story is James Ford (Bruce Willis), a retired military leader who is entrusted with one last job, with the discovery of a new alien civilization on another planet, the film tells us that humans begin to colonize other planets in the year 2100 but, these are not friendly aliens because what they are looking for is to come to our planet, conquer it and dominate it to make this an extension of theirs, something that sounds very good if it were moderately well carried but that contains a surprise that we do not know if it is good or bad in its structure. ![]() The idea is interesting but extremely hackneyed and full of clichés, Cosmic Sin is a good example that the science fiction genre is overexploited these days, this work is more like a video game than a blockbuster.ĭirected by Edward Drake (Animals) who also co-wrote the script with Corey Grande tries to tackle this topic in a desperately convincing way, the lousy script it has is puzzling in many moments because it opens subplots that lead nowhere and that feels like are purposely to justify the 88 minutes that it lasts, a total lack of coherence in the narration during this time seeks to lay the foundations of a futuristic scenario that complies with the rules of science fiction, which suggests that the visual must be consistent or at the level of history, the Earth in the year 2524 does not look much less feel different than what we are living today except for robots and flying cars that not only represent the evolution of technology but are a shameless reference to the fact that in the future things must necessarily be this way. What is the film about?Ī futuristic society in the year 2524 is affected by an unprecedented event that could change the destiny of our planet forever, it is here where a team of scientists and a rebel group must join forces and all the resources they have to protect us from a hostile alien race that has arrived on the planet with enough power to infect and control humans. Futuristic science fiction tends to be spectacularly visual, more in the details, we see worlds created with references to the present day that are very nostalgic, when as spectators we explore these works we want to feel excited to see what life will be like when we are no longer there.Īddressing stories in very distant futures carries a great responsibility to do a good job of research so that what is being created is convincing or we are so immersed in their stories that we forget that this data is relevant.Ĭosmic Sin is a strange experiment that addresses this issue in a less personal way but that aims to pay homage to very classic films such as Alien Resurrection (1997) or Balde Runner 2049 (2017) but redesigning its structure.
